Fewer late-night sailings as Turbojet scales back schedules

Ferry operator Turbojet is reducing late-night ferry sailings between Hong Kong and Macau starting April 15, the company announced in their official website.

The trimming affects the last westbound ferry from Hong Kong’s Sheung Wan to Macau’s Outer Harbour, which will move from its current 11 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

The eastbound final run from Macau’s Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal to Hong Kong, departing at 11 p.m., remains. Meanwhile, Turbojet’s daytime services that include 19 sailings each way from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., remain unchanged.

Looking at sailings to Taipa’s Ferry Terminal, Turbojet’s routes face steeper cuts with the Sheung Wan-to-Taipa daytime sailings dropping from three to two on weekdays, and eastbound service is reduced from two sailings to just one at 5:30 p.m.

The adjustments coincide with record-breaking use of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge via northbound schemes, as well as an increase in bus frequency across the same bridge.

Buses across the 55-km span offer cheaper, more frequent trips than ferries. However, many residents still find it easier to reach Hong Kong’s Central and other districts on Hong Kong Island by ferry. NS
