The Light Rapid Transit (LRT) system recorded its highest-ever daily average passenger transportation figure in February.
According to the LRT Company, the daily average reached 33,100 passengers last month, exceeding the previous all-time record by 100 passengers. The earlier record was set during the system’s initial month of operation, when rides were offered free of charge.
The February figure was 10.33% higher than the previous month (January), when the system recorded an average of 30,000 passengers per day. It also represents a 22.14% increase compared to the same month in 2025.
The increase was likely driven by the high visitor influx during the Chinese New Year holiday period, as well as a campaign launched by the LRT beginning on the fourth day of the Lunar New Year. The campaign introduced new decorative designs on LRT trains.
The themed train, “Starting the Journey of the New Year,” featured festive Year of the Horse elements symbolizing the start of a new cycle and the arrival of good fortune. It followed two previously introduced themed trains, “Journey with Portuguese Charm,” decorated with Macau-style tile and cultural motifs, and “Golden Twilight,” inspired by Macau’s streets, iconic architecture, and fireworks.
All themed trains operate on the Taipa Line during the festive season to engage passengers and visitors and encourage greater use of the transport system for commuting in Macau.
